- W4313444869 abstract "The process of fermenting organic matter in the absence of oxygen is known as anaerobic digestion (AD). Airtight reactor tanks known as digesters are used to ferment different types of feedstock that are biodegradable to produce biogas using a controlled and monitored system. Biogas can be utilized in many ways which include cooking and heating up water, lighting in biogas lamps, heat generation in poultry, and most importantly for generating electrical power. An internal combustion engine can be fueled with biogas to generate mechanical energy just like in vehicles were diesel or petrol is the fuel, but in this case, the engine is coupled to a suitable generator for electricity generation. The main contribution of this work lies in the analysis of the potential generation of electrical power from biogas in Zimbabwe as a means to complement grid power. The study was conducted to determine and establish the current production of biogas in the country that can be used to generate electricity. This study will help engineers and potential investors realize the feasibility of this technology which is being harnessed by industrialized countries like Germany and China. Generation of electrical power from biogas in Zimbabwe will benefit the rural population of the country significantly since grid power is not that extensive." @default.
