- W4313445610 abstract "Recent advances in technology have allowed us to delve into the world of genetics in a way that could barely be conceived a couple of decades ago. Now besides the human genome, we can also study of the commensal microbiota present within the human gutGut and discover the link it shares to the functioning of the human body. Previously, researchers believed in the notion that the impact of gutGut microbiotaGut microbiota extended only as far as the digestive system. Now it has been discovered that the gutGut microbiotaGut microbiota has the potential to impact nearly every system in the body and possibly plays a pivotal role in agingAgeing and related sarcopeniaSarcopenia. By directly influencing anabolic and catabolic processes, it may have the ability to alter muscle protein metabolism. While a large extent of this has been demonstrated in the laboratory on rodent models, it is yet to be fully demonstrated in human trials. It has been found that the transfer of gutGut microbiotaGut microbiota can significantly alter metabolic processes in mice models. The microbiomeMicrobiome as such plays an important role in signaling pathways at the molecular level, largely through hormone secretion. Significant differences have been observed between the gutGut commensal composition of a younger population as opposed to an older one, which indicates that there exists a relationship between them and agingAgeing in the host. With an increase in the number of clinical trials, we may yet determine other roles played by gutGut commensals, and this could hold the key to newer clinical approaches to known diseases and change our perspective on agingAgeing. This chapter reviews the existing information about gutGut microbiotaGut microbiota and its functioning with special emphasis on its role in sarcopeniaSarcopenia." @default.
