- W4313478415 abstract "Technology advancement for developing cost-effective and compact thermal storage systems is being paid great attention in the field of sustainable energy applications such as concentrating solar power (CSP) and spillage of electricity from photovoltaic (PV) and wind power plants. In this regard, high-temperature latent heat storage (HT-LHS) is gaining significant emphasis to store thermal energy at high-temperature due to its large energy storage capacity, high energetic and exergetic efficiency, compactness, and quasi-isothermal operation. This article depicts silicon as a potential phase change material (PCM) to develop HT-LHS by illustrating the Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats and Unusual (SWOT-U) nature of silicon. Present SWOT-U study highlights the strengths and weaknesses and identifies the opportunities and threats of using silicon as a high-temperature PCM from the existing literature survey. Moreover, the unusual nature of silicon is demonstrated by comparing the direction of convection current generated in silicon with conventional HT-PCM (NaNO3) during melting using CFD analysis with help of COMSOL Multiphysics. Temperature, liquid fraction distribution, streamlines in molten PCM, and movement of melting interface inside HT-LHS domain is graphically illustrated to substantiate the anomaly in molten silicon. The suitability of silicon-based HT-LHS system integrated with therm-ionic photovoltaic (TIPV) device has been established with a preliminary bandgap and workfunction analysis." @default.
