- W4313487041 abstract "When new DNA studies revealed widespread female multiple mating in birds, perceptions about female birds as monogamous shifted. This “infidelity” was initially interpreted as caused by males, and female agency was acknowledged later, which exemplifies male precedence in sexual selection—that research starts with male-centered investigations or explanations and later includes the female-centered equivalents. This chapter demonstrates ignorance production about females, due to theoretical androcentrism but also to empirical difficulties in investigating sexual selection in females. Certain researchers, due to their specific situated knowledges—their engagement in feminist critique and gender-reflective approaches or to their knowledge of particular species—have been crucial for putting forward interpretations of females as active, variable, aggressive and worth studying in their own right." @default.
