- W4313520323 abstract "Recently, social interest in carbon neutrality is increasing, and various developments for eco-friendly power facilities are in progress. In the case of power cables, polypropylene insulation materials that do not require cross-linking and drying and can be recycled have been developed to replace XLPE(Cross-linked polyethylene), which generates a large amount of gas during the manufacturing process. In the case of AC power cables, MV and EHV grades are currently commercialized, and in the case of HVDC cables, research on polypropylene with organic fillers are being conducted to improve space charge accumulation characteristics. Power cables require a lifespan of several tens of years, and when a failure occurs, large social costs are incurred. Therefore, it is very important to understand the degradation characteristics of insulating materials for long-term reliability evaluation of power cables. In the case of XLPE insulating materials, the EAB (Elongation at Break) method and dielectric strength measurement test are known to be effective for evaluation of degradation characteristics. However, research on the degradation characteristics of the polypropylene insulation material that currently being developed is insufficient, and it is considered that studies on factors that can evaluate the degradation characteristics are needed. The purpose of this research is to find the factors for the effective degradation characteristics to evaluate the long-term reliability of power cables that use polypropylene insulation materials. For this purpose, mechanical characteristics such as tensile and elongation characteristics, and various electrical characteristics such as volume resistance, dielectric strength, and space charge accumulated characteristics were evaluated using the accelerated and degraded polypropylene sample.
