- W4313595172 abstract "The electrochemical characterization of redox-flow batteries (RFBs) comprises a multitude of analytical techniques which can be performed ex situ, in situ, or even operando. Although any electrochemical measurement is just based on the three fundamental electrical quantities, current, voltage, and resistance, usually a formidable challenge arises in the subsequent interpretation of the acquired data. In this chapter, the reader is provided with detailed information on the principle, the theory, the limitations, and the fundamental literature of classical electroanalytical techniques, such as cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Emphasizing the vanadium redox-flow system, common pitfalls in the electrochemical analysis of porous electrode materials are revealed, and recent approaches and theories for a quantitative interpretation discussed. Finally, advanced electroanalytical techniques with respect to signal input (ACCV), system design (RRDE), and signal processing (EIS/DRT) are introduced which – together with the fundamental electrochemical analysis – provide the reader with the sophisticated knowledge necessary for a precise and confident investigation of redox-flow batteries." @default.
