- W4313596930 abstract "Flow batteries provide an energy-storage solution for long-term and inexpensive storage. Critical for their adoption is the use of highly reversible redox couples that minimize overall polarization losses and enable industrially relevant high current density performance required for large-scale deployment. Hydrogen provides one such couple due to facile kinetics and transport. In this section, we examine various H 2 / X couples to understand the intrinsic tradeoffs of Coulombic and Voltaic efficiencies and identify the remaining critical issues and barriers for their adoption. Specifically, research works on different classes of H 2 / X couples are thoroughly presented stemming from high potentials (H 2 /Ce) to very inexpensive (H 2 /Fe) to high transport and ease of integration (H 2 /O 2 in regenerative fuel cells) to intermediate (H 2 /Br 2 ). The information in this chapter can be used as technical guidelines for research and development of this and related flow-battery systems." @default.
