- W4313885790 abstract "Climate change impacts have various implications for ocean spaces and natural resources utilization. Considering these impacts, the law of the sea must be implemented to protect the marine environment and adapt to changing ocean conditions. However, the integration of the two regimes, the law of the sea and climate change law, is not the purpose of their collaboration with a view to effective climate change mitigation. Collaboration between the two regimes should be sought through continuing adjustments of relevant regime operations, while keeping in mind the distinctiveness of the respective regimes. Conversely, issues are stemming from the endeavor to alleviate the effect of climate change. The availability of ocean spaces to be used as a CO2 reservoir has been explored by applying geo-engineering, e.g., through ocean fertilization and sub-seabed storage. Appropriate coordination between the two legal regimes should be sought. Consultation and cooperation among relevant international institutions and organs are indispensable for that purpose. The judicial settlement mechanism under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea may be an effective mechanism for collaboration and coordination between the two regimes. It would especially be the case when the standard-setting efforts are pursued cooperatively among relevant international organizations and conferences." @default.
