- W43148959 abstract "First of all, it is convenient to state that the term symbiosis is generally used by specialists with a neutral meaning in accordance with its etimology, which means “life together”. However, there is the tendency to avoid its usage when cytopathological evidence is observed in one of the two partners. Endosymbiosis is an intimate, intracellular symbiosis (a more precise but less used term is endocytobiosis). The mitochondrial and plastidial ones (Chapter 10) are stable endosymbioses. As a rule, there is no loss or regaining of mitochondria and plastids, whereas a transmission of them by subdivision between the daughter-cells occurs at every cellular fission. Possible exceptions to this rule are concentrated at the moment of gametogenesis. In most species with two sexes and very different gametes (Section 12.1, middle), the male gamete, which is the smaller one by definition, does not contribute to the next generation its mitochondria and eventually plastids: these only come from the female gamete." @default.
