- W4317103660 abstract "In our personal and professional pursuits, there are demands we fulfil and ambitions we effortfully strive towards, along with missteps and mistakes, accomplishments and accolades, particularly so as female-identifying academics in so-called pursuit of it all. Underneath, our bodies’ autonomic nervous systems (ANS) are responding to perceived stressors, threats, and traumas, pendulating between the three states of the vagal network, namely the dorsal vagal mode of shutdown and isolation, the activated and mobilised sympathetic response, and the integrated and interconnected ventral vagal state. Each one of our bodies has this always-on, perceptive system of the wandering vagus nerve that literally connects brain and body, ever-scanning for safety. Knowing this can help us name our current experience and promote better ebb and flow between times of stress and those of ease and rest. Through an exploration of the polyvagal pathway, and the pendulating rhythm, we can punctuate our pursuits with skilful self-care." @default.
