- W4317467491 abstract "The unnecessary and irresponsible use of medicines by humans has polluted the environment (mainly water). Tons of active chemicals discharge into aquatic systems. Consequently, nontarget bacteria are exposed to low doses for long periods. Therefore, they acquire resistance and that resistance is transferred as drug-resistant genes. Undeveloped countries, and with unequal regions in access to health and sanitation services, are vulnerable and in turn sources of contamination from medicines to water. This chapter reviews, estimates, and analyzes the aerobic and anaerobic methods that degrade antibiotics and their potential incorporation into wastewater treatment. We would propose perspectives on the topic based on our analysis." @default.
