- W4317494904 abstract "Filamentous fungi are significant industrial cell factories, playing a major role in the production of various enzymes, primary and secondary metabolites. In these metabolites, fungi overproduce organic acids, which is of significant industrial importance. Microbial production of organic acids like citric acid, lactic acid, and itaconic acid have attained commercial status, as wild type fungal strains accumulate higher concentrations. The research on other suitable organic acids is still at a lab scale, due to higher production costs, lower titers and tedious downstream process. In recent years, various metabolic and process engineering approaches were evaluated on the known strains to improve the production titers and yields. In this chapter, we summarize the microorganisms, biochemical pathway, genetics, and recent advancements in the microbial platforms for the production of itaconic, gluconic, citric, and oxalic acids." @default.
