- W4317804534 abstract "The country-of-origin (hereafter, COO) effect has been studied from different perspectives. In this chapter, the COO literature from the field of marketing will be reviewed. COO effects depend on objective characteristics (place, environment, and weather) and socially constructed characteristics (history, culture, and psychic distance), all of which are subject to perception and interpretation by final consumers. COO has been defined in different ways, following major changes in the world economy; for instance, the country of brand, the country of design, and the country of manufacture. In this chapter, the comparative effects of these constructs will be reviewed. Further, individual characteristics, as well as contextual factors (countries, regions, product, or service categories), will be considered which moderate COO effects. Finally, suggestions for further research will be proposed, and a general framework will be discussed as means for summarizing the different perspectives according to which the COO effects can be described and employed." @default.
