- W4317824384 abstract "This chapter discusses New York as a noir setting and provides several examples of the ways New York is featured in several notable noir films. It argues that New York can stand as its own “capital of crime” alongside other noir destinations such as San Francisco and Chicago. After all, the city hosts such popular TV crime dramas as the Law & Order franchise, Blue Bloods, NYPD Blue in the nineties and Kojak in the seventies. Landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the subway, and Broadway have all been transformed into noir settings in films by directors such as Hitchcock and Kubrick. And in true noir fashion, New York as a setting is not simply celebrated—oftentimes it is also criticized and denounced by the characters in the films themselves." @default.
