- W4318821921 abstract "Worldwide, there are approximately 10 million new cases of dementia reported each year. Societies are facing a growing shortage of healthcare for dementia. In this paper, we built a low-cost, humanoid, Friendly Robot to ease Dementia (FRED) aimed to provide a more affordable and accessible socially-assistive robot to people with cognitive decline. Two prototypes of FRED with different bodies were created. Both prototypes were designed with five functions, including creating a contact, making a phone call, providing reminders, answering questions, and playing games. A usability study was performed with college students in order to assess users’ attitudes, perceptions, and experiences towards each prototype’s user interface design and functions . The results suggest that participants preferred the Version 2 prototype, although, overall, perceptions were positive towards both." @default.
