This has compelled the researchers to look for environment-friendly materials and take the aspect of sustainability into account. Thus, researchers are looking for the possibility of transition from synthetic to natural materials. Although, as a reinforcement material, natural fibers can be a promising alternative in place of synthetic fibers, however when it comes to development of natural fiberreinforced polymer nanocomposites, a more detailed investigation is required. Nanomaterials are those molecules or their aggregation having at least one dimension ranging from 1 to 100 nm. Effects of different sized fillers, mainly micro- and nano-sized fillers are the recent developments researchers are working on. The difference between nanofiller and microfiller exists in the size of dispersion between filler and matrix, in which nanofiller has the greater ability to restrict mobility of polymer chains, reason being improved interfacial bonding and its ultrafine phase. Flame retardation, enhancement of mechanical and tribological properties, improved sound and microwave absorption are all the advantages that have been obtained by the use of nanomaterials and fillers in the polymer composites. Being able to impart conductivity with medical skin patches and printable sensing patches, including smart functionalities, are all futuristic applications of nanomaterials that development of nanofabrication has made possible. Tribological and mechanical properties of polymer nanocomposites reinforced with natural fiber with regard to their benefits have been discussed in this chapter. Moreover, the potential applications of polymer nanocomposites with reinforcement as natural fiber in various sectors, especially detailed focus on biomedical applications, have also been discussed." @default.
