- W4319455853 abstract "Biogas is an extensively studied biofuel, it is composed of a combination of gases, primarily of methane (CH4) and the rest of carbon dioxide (CO2) with minor impurities of nitrogen (N2), hydrogen (H2), ammonia (NH3), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). It is similar to natural gas in terms of its composition, the main difference lies in its origin, natural gas is a fossil fuel while biogas is a biofuel. In this sense, biotechnology is widely used in the generation of biogas (also called biomethane), which is obtained by the anaerobic digestion of organic waste. The biogas yield process involves the use of organic waste to generate renewable energy. In addition to CH4, all the other gasses present in biogas are contemplated as biogas impurities. There are several well-established physical–chemical technologies on the market related to “biogas cleaning,” involving processes of membrane separation adsorption and absorption. Biogas has been applied for heat production by direct combustion, heat-power, fuel for vehicles, injection to gas pipelines, and electricity production. This chapter will address in detail the several biological techniques of obtaining biogas, main feedstock characteristics, type of bioreactors used to obtain biogas, some techniques of cleaning biogas, as well as the applications of the biofuel obtained as an alternative to replace conventional sources." @default.
