This adverse situation of shortage of water has the potential to develop into a world water crisis, in the upcoming years. Therefore, reclamation and reuse of the wastewater have emerged as an urgent environmental requirement. To reuse the conventionally treated water, it should be of utilizable quality. The water that has been treated must meet the minimum safety standards and quality so that it can be used for specific reclamation purposes. Hence, the focus of the current research all over the world is on sustainable treatment approach for wastewater remediation. Research has shown that the complication of water treatment could be tackled with the use of an affordable, yet efficient technique known as nanotechnology. This chapter reviews the usage of applications of nanotechnology in the treatment of wastewater. Under the umbrella of nanotechnology, the procedures for the remediation of contaminants, the properties of the nanoparticles, and the recent advancements in the nano-technological treatment of wastewater have been discussed. The techniques for the remediation of the wastewater pollutants are adsorption, membrane filtration, photo-catalysis, and the action of antimicrobial nanoparticles for the disinfection of the wastewater resources. The chapter comprehensively reviews the importance of nanotechnology in the remediation of the wastewater and how it can be effectual for the reclamation and reutilization of the wastewater." @default.
