- W4319458382 abstract "The healthcare industry plays an essential role in the treatment of patients, providing services in sustaining and renewing health. With new and advanced developments in technology, the healthcare service is being upgraded with contemporary solutions for early, easy, and efficient diagnosis and treatment. Before the Internet of Things (IoT), the interactions for a patient with family members, physicians, hospitals, and insurance companies were limited to telecommunication or physical visits. Nowadays, during this pandemic era, telemedicine has become indispensable in treating patients at home. The IoT provides a possible option to monitor the patient’s health and keep them safe by generating a huge amount of data about the patient via the connected devices around them, which undergo further analytics to estimate the current state of the patient. Thus, IoT allows the remote monitoring of patients, which enhances the potential to keep the patient safe, healthy, and under great care through early diagnosis, and treatment. IoT not only reduces cost but also provides proactive treatment, manages drugs effectively, and reduces error through effective decision-making as its major advantages. However, IoT also has disadvantages like limited bandwidth, energy consumption leading to insufficient energy, data security, and additional computational cost. This chapter discusses the recent technological advancements and innovations in IoT-based healthcare services focused on neurological disorders and mental health." @default.
