- W4319586529 abstract "For a classical radar signal processing chain, target parameter estimation (TPE) is carried out after matched filtering (MF) and detection. Since target parameters are unknown when MF is implemented, data windows are generally adopted to reduce the side lobes of strong targets. However, the mismatch caused by data windows can result in significant performance loss. Sparse recovery (SR)-based detection method is a promising algorithm that can be used to reduce side lobes without adopting data windows. Nevertheless, grid mismatch problem is inevitable since target parameters are unknown as well. This paper proposes a novel estimate-before-detection (EBD) approach for LFMCW radar which can carry out TPE before MF and target detection. Firstly, based on the maximum likelihood (ML) principle and the first-order Taylor series, TPE is performed directly based on the received signal, and an analytical solution is obtained. Then, in order to reduce the compute complexity, a fast estimation method is proposed, which can carry out TPE using FFT. The proposed method makes it possible to perform “matched” signal processing with known target parameters." @default.
