- W4319590446 abstract "Phosphors form an integral part of the lighting industry that has powered the last two generations of luminaires. Since the advent of fluorescent lamps, phosphors have gained immense popularity throughout the world. Shortly after introducing light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as a new source of lighting, phosphors were integrated with the light-emitting semiconductor chips to produce the full-color spectrum in the visible light region. White-emitting LED with superior stability, and lesser-known color-degradation was also realized by combining the single-phased white-emitting phosphor with a near-ultraviolet emitting GaN chip. The admiration for phosphors was not just limited within the scale of the lighting industry, but it soon fledged into the different sectors. Some of the display devices rely on phosphor technology for their functioning. The photovoltaic cells also experienced an improvement in their efficiency with the incorporation of phosphor-coatings on them. The lacunas faced by the photovoltaics in converting ultraviolet and infrared light wavelengths were filled with the downconversion and upconversion phosphors, respectively. The upconversion phosphors have also made it possible to achieve in vivo bioimaging of living organisms and thereby monitor the growth of cancerous cells in the human body. In this article, the conversion phosphors have been classified based on their applications in different fields, and their vitality in each of those sectors has been briefly discussed." @default.
