- W4319737572 abstract "Probiotic Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 (B. amyloliquefaciens) and Bacillus subtilis DSM 32315 (B. subtilis) have positive effects as feed additives on chicken health and performance. However, the underlying modes of action are still elusive, they may have a direct effect on the immune system. Here, we investigated direct effects of B. amyloliquefaciens and B. subtilis on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in vitro. Flow cytometric analysis revealed a higher Δ relative cell count of CD4+ T-helper cells (P<0.1; P<0.05) and CD4+CD25+ activated T-helper cells (P<0.05; P<0.01) in the cultured chicken PBMCs after treatment with both Bacillus strains. Furthermore, we found a higher Δ relative cell count of CD8+ cytotoxic T-cells (P<0.05) and CD8+CD25+ activated cytotoxic T-cells (P<0.05) after treatment with B. subtilis. Hence, we suggest a direct immunomodulatory effect of B. subtilis and B. amyloliquefaciens on chicken PBMCs." @default.
