- W4319781102 abstract "Aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) is a liquid–liquid extraction technique and has been extensively studied due to its great potential for extraction, separation, purification, and recovery of proteins, nucleic acid, antibodies, enzymes, membranes, viruses, and other biomolecules in downstream processing. The main advantages of this technique over other conventional liquid–liquid extraction techniques include its inexpensive solvent used, energy-efficient, and pose a shorter time in phase separation. Besides that, it is easy to operate, scale-up, environmentally sustainable, and allows continuous steady-state operation. In this chapter, the fundamental studies of ATPS and its applications are evaluated. Also, the parameters affecting the partitioning behavior of biomolecules in ATPS, such as pH, temperature, molecular weight, polymer concentration, salt concentration, and alcohol concentration is comprehensively discussed. Furthermore, future prospect and challenges of ATPS implementation at commercial scale are highlighted." @default.
