- W4319782600 abstract "The perinatal period refers to the time from conception to the first year postpartum. This major transitional period welcomes many joys but also many changes, adjustments, and challenges for expectant and new parents which in turn may affect their emotional and mental well-being. Indeed, during this time, both men and women are more susceptible to experiencing mental health difficulties (O'Hara & Wisner, 2014). Research into the treatment of perinatal mental health (PMH) disorders has increased, with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) being among the main evidence-based therapeutic modality for these complications (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), 2014). However, adaptations to the standardized delivery of CBT for depression are recommended to effectively address the unique complexities of the perinatal period (Wenzel & Kleiman, 2015). This case study will delineate such adaptations as it outlines the multidisciplinary approach adopted to support Lisa, a mother identified to be suffering from antenatal and postpartum depression and the therapeutic journey which followed. The psychological and psychiatric interventions provided will be described with a specific focus placed on the role of CBT in the management of Lisa’s perinatal depression." @default.
