- W4319953057 abstract "Student success and retention in higher education is an issue faced by many institutions, particularly that of first time, first year college students. Much of the previous research has looked at specific initiatives and approaches these topics from a deficit model. The one common thread of college students are their interactions with faculty. Previous research has shown that faculty can have a significant impact on the success and retention of students. This study looked to address these issues by working with faculty members to create a culture of student success and retention and measuring their roles and feelings acting and in the development of this type of culture. In working with the faculty in the Criminal Justice Department, this study found that a culture of student success and retention can be defined by community, communication, collaboration, and clarity and the role of the faculty at a college extends well beyond the classroom and academics.--Author's abstract" @default.
