Integrating various functions of manufacturing using computers to achieve sustainable manufacturing have been widely used in the manufacturing industry. Computer-aided design/manufacture/engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) has been effectively used to design, analyze, and optimize manufacturing processes for better quality, lower costs, and faster to market for both economic and environmental sustainability. Extensive research on CAD/CAM/CAE for manufacturing sustainability has been done. Using virtual experiments to replace physical experiments has delivered a great savings not only in time and costs but also in energy consumption and waste reduction to achieve sustainable manufacturing. CAE plays an important role in sustainable manufacturing. CAE including FEM, best die preform design (CFD), multibody dynamics (MBD), and Multiphysics and Multidiscipline simulations, such as MBD-FEA, CFD-FEA, etc., is a numerical technique and powerful virtual experiment technique that has been applied to a wide range of engineering problems crossover manufacturing industry to optimize manufacturing processes and product design and development for both environmental and economic sustainability. CAE provides a multidisciplinary systematic approach to manufacturing sustainability to design and optimize manufacturing processes for sustainability. CAE helps in sustainable manufacturing by replacing physical experiments by virtual ones. The chapter provides a brief overview of CAE technology with numerous industrial examples to demonstrate the importance of CAE in sustainable manufacturing. Multiphysics and Multidiscipline simulations significantly improve the accuracy of the predictions and greatly expand CAE application ranges to reduce or even eliminate physical testing." @default.
