- W4320004261 abstract "This chapter examines the effect of the obesity epidemic on the consumption of energy from fossil fuel sources in Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries between 1991 and 2016. This chapter used three econometric approaches as methods. First, a panel with fixed effects (least squares dummy variable) estimator was used as a benchmark. Second, a panel quantile estimator with fixed effects captured the non-linearities between explanatory variables and those explained. Finally, a majorise–minimise quantile regression estimator, which is a panel quantile regression robust to the absence, presence or multiple fixed effects, was used to check the robustness of results. The empirical results from all econometric approaches indicated that the variables obesity epidemic and food production increase the consumption of fossil fuels, while renewable energy consumption decreases it." @default.
