These developments include innovations in beams, techniques, applications, and technology computing (software). The application of the hydroacoustic method is now more widely applied in combination with other data collection methods such as fishing gear (e.g., set net, trawling, fishing, electrofishing, etc.), chemical methods, and assessment of environmental parameters such as dissolved oxygen and temperature. The current study aims to profile the scientific output of fisheries stock assessment utilizing hydroacoustic techniques to systematize existing knowledge and provide further directions for research. A total of 3364 search articles indexed on Web of Science and Scopus from 2000 to 2022 were collected using the set criteria. After careful screening for eligibility, 864 articles were analyzed using the PRISMA methodology. Key themes that emerged were hydroacoustic survey techniques (362 studies, 38%), fish characterization (197 studies, 25%), fisheries management (94 studies, 12%), population distribution (122 studies, 14%), and fish migration dynamics (81 studies, 10%). An overlay visualization of key themes shows that the key focus in recent years includes acoustic telemetry, bioacoustics, conservation, and reproduction. More innovations in the hydroacoustic method are needed, such as (1) Multi-field application, (2) Application to environmental monitoring, and (3) Simplified sampling design and analysis technique. Moreover, other applications could be further explored, such as the effect of changes in the fish ecosystem, climate change, pollution, and other disruptions, that could further aid the scientific community in contributing towards a blue economy." @default.
