- W4320806873 abstract "This study examines how gamification aspects of LexiPal, a learning programme designed for dyslexic students, stimulate students' intrinsic and extrinsic learning motivation. To achieve this objective, a case study with a seven-day online observation with nine primary school children with dyslexia (N=9) using LexiPal as a learning medium was conducted to achieve the goal. The students' perceptions of gamification and learning motivation were then assessed using a Likert-scale questionnaire with the Smileyometer. In addition, an online semi-structured interview with two teachers was conducted to evaluate how LexiPal gamification influences students' skills and helps teachers improve their teaching tactics. The results show favourable general trends in LexiPal's gamification usability, stimulating intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The findings also support the notion that intrinsic motivation from LexiPal's gamification comprises levelling and the app's interface, whereas extrinsic motivation involves reward and praise mechanisms. The results also confirm that after utilising LexiPal, the participating teachers discovered that the pupils improved cognitively in fine motor skills, emotion comprehension, time and direction comprehension, and sentence writing. More precise assessments and classifications of learning motivation may shed light on how educational technology tools can improve the learning and teaching process, particularly for children with dyslexia." @default.
