- W4321181567 abstract "In the context of finding green and sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels, the photocatalytic splitting of water using sunlight and a photocatalyst has been found to be an appealing approach for H 2 production. In this regard, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous crystalline solids containing rigid bi- or multimodal-organic linkers with inorganic nodes constituted by one metal ion or cluster. MOFs have been recently proposed as good candidates as photocatalysts due to their compositional flexibility, allowing active sites design and bandgap engineering together with high porosity and surface area. In the present chapter, we describe the fundamentals and the current state of the art of photocatalytic H 2 production and overall water splitting using MOFs as photocatalysts. The final section summarizes the main points of the chapter and presents our view on future developments in the field." @default.
