- W4321447546 abstract "Lulo is a tropical fruit with excellent organoleptic characteristics but with rapid deterioration and short shelf life. An active packaging was developed for lulo combining modified atmospheres with active O2 removal and moisture adsorption. A mixture of iron filings (Fe) and sodium polyacrylate (SPA) powder was adjusted in sachets. Fresh fruits (0.271 ± 0,021 kg) were packaged in polylactic acid (PLA) trays sealed with a PLA film, including different amounts of active compounds, and stored at 12 ± 1 °C and 75 ± 2% RH. The best active mixture ratio of Fe/SPA was 1/1 (w/w) with an O2 removal capacity of 0.055 mmol g−1 d−1 at 12 °C. Steady values of up to 16.8% O2 and 5% CO2 were obtained in the trays for 8g of active mixture besides more than 25 days of shelf life, which can make it possible to increase the market potential for the fruit." @default.
