- W4322505939 abstract "Urban form is related to PM2.5 and has an impact on it. However, the relationships between urban form and PM2.5 concentrations and their rules still need to be explored from the spatial pattern and process perspective. Using 84 cities in China during 2000–2020 as an example, our study analyzed the relationships and their laws from a spatial pattern and process perspective. A typical Kuznets inverted U function was proposed to quantitatively depict the overall relationship between urban compactness and PM2.5 concentrations; the PM2.5 concentrations first increased and then decreased with the increase in urban compactness. A Density Concentration Function (DCF) model was proposed to depict the spatial relationship between urban land density and PM2.5 concentrations, quantifying the variation in the relationship from the urban center to the outskirts. The correlation between urban compactness and PM2.5 concentrations was negative from 2000 to 2010 from the spatial process perspective, showing a gradual weakening; the correlation was reversed from 2010 to 2020. Furthermore, we described the formation and mechanisms of these relationships. These relationships can lead to environmental policies to improve air quality." @default.
