- W4323059338 abstract "High-impact trauma resulting in bone injury at the knee is not infrequently associated with significant periarticular and/or intra-articular soft tissue disruption. Twisting type of injuries or low-impact hypermobility injuries are more likely to be associated with ligamentous and meniscal injury at the knee which in turn can be associated with specific patterns of bone bruising or microtrabecular-type injury. Patients presenting with knee injury are most likely to undergo preliminary radiographic assessment which often will make the diagnosis of the bone injury/fracture but less likely to detect microfractures or soft tissue disruption. Further evaluation with the cross-sectional imaging modalities of computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will allow determination of exact extent of injury and identify with clarity any associated soft tissue meniscal, ligamentous, tendon, or chondral injuries which may require tailored management input. This chapter addresses the principal bone injuries at the knee covering both the adult and immature skeleton and encompassing appearances seen on radiography, CT, and MRI. Osteochondral, stress, and insufficiency-type fractures are also addressed." @default.
