- W4323522079 abstract "The purpose of the research is to study the attitude of the Polish Peopleʼs Democratic Party to the issues of war, peace and the solution of the Polish question, based on a specific historical moment. The research methodology is based on the analysis and synthesis of historical documents, memoir literature and periodicals, mainly Polish to highlight the driving forces and factors that led one of the leading Polish parties in the early 20th century to a pro-Russian orientation at the beginning of the First World War. The scientific novelty consists in a comprehensive study of the Polish question on the eve and at the beginning of the First World War, the study of Polish society at that time, primarily through the lens of one of the most influential Polish parties operating at that time. Conclusions. The pro-Russian orientation of the Peopleʼs Democratic Party of Poland was caused primarily by the economic interests of that part of Polish society, which for many decades was organically connected with the government of the Russian Empire, was an integral part of the existing state system, and also had close ties with the economy and policy of tsarist Russia. Consequently, the wealthy Polish population of the Russian Empire deliberately took the position of supporting tsarism. To cover up their pro-tsarist activities, the Peopleʼs Democrats and their satellite parties used the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Grand Duke Mykola Mykolayovychʼs appeal to the Poles. At the beginning of the war, the Polish question had a secondary character for the Peopleʼs Democrats. Moreover, at the beginning of the war, the Peopleʼs Democrats and their leader R. Dmovsky considered it an internal issue of Tsarist Russia. Only later did R. Dmovsky try to connect Russiaʼs victory over Germany with the fate of Poland and thereby explain the pro-tsarist position of the Peopleʼs Democrats." @default.
