- W4323668307 abstract "The dissolutive wetting between molten iron and carbon brick has great influence on the erosion of carbon brick. The current study focuses on the influence mechanism of sulfur on dissolutive wetting. The results indicate that the concave is also observed at the interface, sulfur is observed in the shape of small water droplet at the interface, and sulfur promotes the transformation of graphite from coarse graphite to striped graphite. The total wetting angle under different sulfur content varies in the initial and final stage. Also, the quantitative relationship between the final total wetting angle and sulfur content is obtained through the fitting of experimental data. Moreover, the adverse effects of sulfur on carbon dissolution are found. Sulfur adsorption covers the vacancy at the interface and reduces the effective contact area between molten iron and carbon brick, which leads to the dissolution changes from mass transfer control to mixed control of interfacial reaction and carbon mass transfer. The effect of sulfur is prominent when the dissolutive wetting is relatively stable. The change of interfacial energy drives the wetting angle increase with the sulfur content in molten iron. The presence of sulfur changes the bond energy at the interface, which makes carbon atom difficult to migrate at the interface. This is the essential reason for the change of wetting angle caused by molten iron containing sulfur." @default.
