- W4323786530 abstract "Catalytic converters are widely used in automotive applications to reduce tailpipe emissions. Their performance depends on the operating temperature that varies during the transient engine operation. To carefully predict catalyst thermal behavior reliable numerical models are required. In this study a mathematical model for simulating transient heat transfer in the honeycomb catalyst substrate is presented. The numerical discretization of the governing equations was performed by adopting the finite volume method. The computational domain was subdivided by non-overlapping macroscopic finite volumes enabled to reduce the number of equations and computational efforts to solve them. The developed model was validated with high-fidelity transient thermal model implemented in ANSYS. Comparative analysis of the numerical solutions confirmed reasonable prediction quality of the developed model." @default.
