Chemical composition of rock salts is slightly different from that of sea salts although both originated from seawater. Sea and rock salts are categorized into unrefined salts. Refined salt, also known as table salt, is produced by purifying those unrefined salts and thus contains less amounts of mineral impurities. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is one of the plasma-based optical emission spectroscopic techniques for elemental analysis. The strongest optical emission observed in LIBS spectra of salts is Na I doublet at 589.0 and 589.6 nm, which are, however, significantly influenced by self-absorption because they are strong resonance lines from the matrix element. Laser ablation is the sampling process for LIBS analysis." @default.
