- W4327767567 abstract "Andrew Sheptytsky, one of the greatest ecumenists of the 20th century Metropolitan Andrew Sheptytsky of Lviv, one of the greatest ecumenists of our times, saw as his primary task the education of Catholics toward the ideas of a fraternel meeting with the non-Catholics. Not only in the Roman Curia and the Roman Catholic Church at large, but also among some Byzantine Rite Catholics the persuasion prevailed, that the genuine and true form of Catholicism is found in the Latin Rite and that the farms of worship of the Eastern Catholic Churches are rather tolerated exceptions. The breaking-down of this deepseated prejudice was especially important as it was the basis on which one could approach the Orthodox. It was indispensable to demonstrate to them that the Catholic Church did not reject their liturgical and canonical tradition, nay, that Catholics even had become capable of appreciating the genuiness and beauty of their heritage, which was, after all, of apostolic origin. This vision that led metropolitan Sheptytsky in all his ecumenical activities made him a forerunner of Vatican II." @default.
