- W4328129466 abstract "One of the principal ways in which the spatial variation of wind speed is predicted in wind resource assessment is to use the fundamental equations of fluid flow which are discretised on a three-dimensional grid. This chapter reviews the governing equations and considers the use of numerical models of different complexity based on these equations. The siting of wind turbines is done primarily at the microscale level. There are certain wind flow situations such as sea breezes and valley winds that are only properly captured by modelling over larger areas that require a much more complete representation of all the physical processes in the atmosphere. This is the realm of mesoscale models. Global models, as the name suggests, produce forecasts or analyses on a global scale. In recent years, the importance of incorporating the effects of atmospheric stability in the atmospheric boundary layer and the free atmosphere above has become apparent in wind resource assessment." @default.
