- W4352980932 abstract "Rapid development of microgrids and increasing penetration of distributed generations invite technical challenges including stability issues. Microgrids based on inverter interfaced distributed generations (DG) have less/zero rotational inertia. For a long time, synchronous generators have been at the forefront of power generation which have large inertia. Virtual synchronous generator (VSG) is a generating unit with an inverter that mimics the dynamic behavior and characteristics of a synchronous generator (SG) with a precise quantity of virtual inertia. VSG based inverter control schemes using inertia emulation improve dynamic frequency performance in microgrids. This paper explores the general concept of virtual synchronous generator and the potential for using it into power electronic devices linked to distributed generation based microgrid. This survey highlights small signal and transient stability analysis of VSG integrated DG system and modifications made into the VSG system to improve the transient stability. Also recommends areas that need to be addressed for improving the transient stability of microgrids." @default.
