• W4360997907 abstract "As climate change impacts are getting more destructive over time, defining the appropriate adaptation strategy becomes an important issue for many vulnerable cities. Urban green infrastructure or (UGI) can present an efficient strategy in this field. Planning such strategy at the city scale, requires the definition of the priority locations to have a vital adaptation solution. Based on that, this research aims to define the streets priority to employ new UGI assets in the city of Baghdad, as a way to adapt to the phenomenon of urban heat island which has increased rapidly in the past decades. The definition of the priority level is based on the rate of the streets' exposure to the solar radiation which, in turn, relates to many streets' physical parameters. So, it is a multi-parameters process. By using GIS ArcMap, the physical parameters of the streets' solar exposure in Rusafa municipality -in Baghdad city- are mapped and overlayed. Three main parameters are considered: canyon aspect ratio, canyon orientation and canyon green shading level. The results of mapping each parameter are discussed separately and, the results of the overlaying process in relation to the streets' priority to have UGI assets are displayed in detail. The multi-parameters analysis reveals the locations of the streets with the higher level of priority to have new UGI assets. Most of these streets are located in the modern urban pattern part of the study area, with the highest land surface temperature as they are wide, unshaded, and have northwest-southeast orientation. On the other hand, the streets with the lowest priority level are specified either as wide but green sided canyons in the modern part, or as deep and northeast-southwest canyons in the traditional urban pattern part of the study area." @default.
