- W4362006145 abstract "With the standardization of 5G, commercial millimetre wave (mmWave) communications have become a reality despite the unfavourable propagation characteristics at these frequencies. The gigabits per second rates can be provided in 5G wireless systems. The exponential growth of the data traffic causes spectrum scarcity and capacity limitations of wireless communication systems. Terahertz (THz) frequency band is envisioned as a key technology to support ultra-broadband, bridging the gap between the millimetre wave and optical frequency ranges. Several hundreds of gigabits per second to several terabits per second data rates, low latency and high reliability pave the way for THz communications [1]. This band occupies a large portion of the electromagnetic spectrum between the far infrared and microwave bands in a frequency interval from 0.3 to 10 THz (1 mm–30 μm wavelength). The key aspects presented here establish THz communications as a pillar of 6G and beyond wireless systems in the next decade. An overview of terahertz communication, their propagation characteristics, current technological trends, potential applications, and technical challenges of 6G have been presented here. Besides some experimental results have also been analysed here. Terahertz frequency enhances channel capacity with higher bandwidth as compared to 5G. Thus, Terahertz frequency is significant to explore new applications for future network of 2030s." @default.
