- W4362681857 abstract "Light emitting diode (LED) based displays are regarded as one of the most prominent candidates for next generation display technologies with the advent of augmented and virtual reality. The chip sizes for the miniaturized displays tend to be similar to the conventional LED displays, yet the lifespan and the efficiency are inherited. As we delve deeper into the avenues of extended reality in display application, demand for further miniaturization, flexibility, complexity and resolution etc. increases proportionally. Known for their excellent colour saturation and depth, OLEDs have been around for the best part of a decade and are massively used in television sets, mobile displays, and a plethora of other small screen electronic displays. With chip sizes ranging from 100 to 200 μm, mLEDs have already been predominantly used as backlight sources in commercial applications at relatively low power consumptions. With chip sizes less than 100 μm, uLEDs still remain in the laboratory. In this review, we introduce three types of LED displays - the Organic LED (OLED), mini-LED (mLED) and micro-LED (uLED) and their compatibility in the arena of augmented and virtual reality. Furthermore, this paper provides a comprehensive account and a comparison for contemporary technologies and a lucid view of inorganic and miniaturized LED displays for the display community and its role in the evolution of augmented reality and virtual reality based applications." @default.
