- W4364296968 abstract "In this work, a dynamic range adjustable time-to-digital converter (TDC) for single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays is proposed. The circuit is based on an element sharing control logic which allows the easy adjustment of the measuring range of the TDC with saved chip layout. In the circuit, shared control module for combining the adjacent pixel units is also designed to alleviation the affection on the fill factor of the SPAD arrays. A 4×4 SPAD and TDC arrays circuit and the layout is designed, post-layout simulation is carried out. Results show that with the circuit proposed, the dynamic range of the interval timing measurement can be set from 2.40 ns to 3.436 s. This corresponding to a dynamic range of 183 dB which can be extended or reduced by using different size of the arrays. A measurement resolution of 50 ps and a low timing jitter of 800 ps are abstained. Results also show that when the dynamic range is changed, the key parameters of the system such as chip fill factor, measurement resolution and timing jitter can be kept the same. This enhances the system’s usefulness in the applications where the imaging range is variable but the measurement accuracy and sensitivity need to be kept." @default.
