Bimetallic NiCu catalysts have shown high efficiency and selectivity for this chemical transformation. In this study, we leverage the high porosity and uniform catalyst deposition sites on a Zr-based metal–organic framework (MOF) catalyst support, NU-1000, to understand how the changes in Cu:Ni ratio affects the reactivity for non-oxidative ethanol dehydrogenation. We found that increasing the Ni2+ concentration significantly reduces the activation energy of the reaction due to the role of Ni2+ in suppressing the onset of Cu reduction. This study illustrates how MOFs can be used as catalyst supports to fine-tune the catalyst compositions and understand their effect on the overall catalytic performances." @default.
