- W4366171908 abstract "Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common skin disease that is characterized by skin barrier dysfunction, inflammation, and pruritus. Although various pharmacologic agents including cytokine inhibitors and signaling pathway blockers have been developed recently, there still appears to remain many problems such as side effects and costs. Therefore, non-pharmacologic treatments for AD are desired. Ultra-fine bubble (UFB) is defined as a bubble smaller than 1 μm in diameter. It is usually used as cleaning of medical equipment, etc. UFB shower has discovered in Japan during research on microbubbles and developed as a cleaning device. It is expected to keep skin clean with attention to the temperature and strength of the shower. In this study, we examined the effects of UFB shower on a mouse model of AD.Mite antigen-induced AD in NC/Nga mice were utilized for the experiments of shower treatments for 7-14 days. They were divided into 3 groups: UFB shower-treated, normal shower-treated, and non-treated. Clinical feature was assessed by dermatitis score and scratching counts. Skin thickness was evaluated histologically, and qPCR was performed to examine the expression levels of inflammatory cytokines and skin barrier-related proteins.Clinical features were markedly improved in UFB shower-treated mice group. The expression levels of inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13 were decreased in the skin of normal and UFB shower-treated mice. In addition, in the skin of UFB shower-treated mice, the expression levels of skin barrier-related proteins were increased compared to normal shower-treated mice. These results suggest that UFB shower can recover the skin barrier-function, and ameliorate skin inflammation and clinical feature in AD." @default.
