- W4366185411 abstract "Our study sought to explore if there are any differences in the clinical presentation and treatment patterns among self-reported black and white adults with atopic dermatitis (AD). We performed a single-center retrospective chart review and included adults (≥18 years of age) with AD-related ICD-10 codes. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize categorical variables as proportions (percentages) and logistic regression (odds ratio [OR]; 95% confidence interval [95%CI]) was used to examine differences between white and black cohorts with AD. In our cohort of adults with AD, those who self-identified as black were more likely to have disease involvement of extensors (OR = 1.23 [1.01 – 1.48]), neck (OR = 1.36 [1.12 – 1.66]), and torso (OR = 1.48 [1.23 – 1.78]), and were more likely to have flexural lichenification (OR = 1.87 [1.53 – 2.27]), non-flexural lichenification (OR = 2.27 [1.79 – 2.87]), and follicular eczema (OR = 2.13 [1.41 – 3.20]) compared to whites. Even though we found no statistical differences in the reporting of personal history of other atopic diseases among cohorts, blacks were more likely to report a family history of atopic diseases compared to whites (OR = 1.37 [1.13 – 1.66]), specifically asthma (OR = 1.55 [1.23 – 1.95]). We also found that blacks have onset of disease in childhood and more persistent disease compared to whites (OR = 0.70 [0.58 – 0.84]). Lastly, despite no difference in level of disease severity, blacks were less likely to receive any systemic immunosuppressive therapy (OR = 0.34 [0.23 – 0.50]) or dupilumab (OR = 0.63 [0.49 – 0.81]) compared to whites. Our findings demonstrated that black adults with AD may present with distinct clinical features that differ from whites, have more persistent AD and may be less likely to receive higher-potency treatments despite similar levels of disease severity compared to whites." @default.
