- W4366993063 abstract "Frugal innovation is characterized as a new pathway for product development under different constraints. In Brazil, research on frugal innovation is still incipient but extremely necessary since the country includes many communities and areas with constraints on their resources. This article reports on a study aimed at developing a frugal product that, in the context of emerging countries, aids a community involved in extractivism. This article also seeks to contribute to the body of knowledge on this subject already generated in an Indian and Chinese context, often called the cradles of frugal innovation. The research presented here examines the implications for frugal innovation research and managerial practices and explores the case study of extractivism of the Butia catarinensis palm which is a Southern American tree providing fruit and has ornamental characteristics. The results show that a frugal innovation methodology proved to be an efficient approach during the development of the new frugal product called a butiá pulper (machine). More broadly, the results of this work also indicate that social, environmental, economic, and technological aspects of frugal innovation play an important role in the process of idea creation, concept development, product development, and product marketing." @default.
