- W4367152609 abstract "Although cases of agranulocytic angina appear rarely, great advances in its treatment have occurred since its first description by Schultz, in 1922. What was first described as a disease entity is now known as a clinical syndrome. One now speaks of agranulocytic angina as granulocytopenia and malignant neutropenia; both are acute febrile conditions with a marked leukopenia. The latter condition is quite difficult to distinguish from true agranulocytic angina. As a rule, it follows sepsis while the former can either be idiopathic or due to a drug sensitivity. Those of the first group with no recognizable cause are classed as the Schultz type. Treatment of both granulocytopenia and malignant neutropenia, until 1932, was mainly with frequent blood transfusions and with roentgen therapy to the long bones. Mortality was estimated at from 70 to 75 per cent." @default.
