- W4367156593 abstract "Nigeria had its first index of COVID-19 through a Turkish who was diagnosed as having contracted the virus on February 27, 2020. According to a media report, the Turkish was a staff of one of the multinationals in Ogun state, Nigeria. He developed a fever at work and was taken to hospital. It was at the hospital that he was discovered to have contracted COVID-19. He was taken care of by the management of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control. This scenario generated controversies in the media and led to intensive campaigns on the part of Lagos and Ogun State. Hence, these states put preventive and reactive measures in place to tackle the Pandemic. This study, therefore, attempted to examine Imole Yoruba’s coverage of COVID-19 Lockdown in South West Nigeria. The method of the study was content analysis. It also made use of a coding guide as the instrument of study. The study comprised three research questions that bothered on the prominence, tone, and sources of new stories on COVID-19 as portrayed by Imole Yoruba. The states selected are predominantly Yoruba-speaking states. The study was quantitative in nature, with units of analysis comprising news stories, editorials, photos, and features. Data generated through SPSS 23 revealed that COVID-19 was given prominence through the front page, the sources of the stories were generated through politicians while the tone of the news stories was neutral." @default.
